Our Eco Commitment

At Shose Farmhouse Chalets & Campsite, we believe that sustainable travel is not just a trendit’s a responsibility. Nestled in the heart of nature at the base of Mount Kilimanjaro, we are dedicated to preserving the very environment that makes our location so special, while uplifting the community around us.

Sustainable Practices in Action

Reducing Single-Use Plastics

We have taken active steps to eliminate singleuse plastics from our operations. Instead of plastic water bottles, we serve fresh, purified drinking water in reusable glass bottles available in all guest rooms and the restaurant

Solar-Powered Energy

Our entire property is powered by 100% solar energy. From lighting to water heating, every facility at Shose runs on clean, renewable energy, reducing reliance on fossil fuels and significantly lowering overall carbon emissions.

Water Conservation

Water is a precious resource, and we use it responsibly. Guests are encouraged to opt out of daily linen and towel changes, helping conserve water and reduce environmental impact. Changes are available upon request.

Biodiversity Restoration

As part of our commitment to environmental stewardship, we are working to restore native biodiversity. This includes planting tree and plant species that support local wildlife, reduce erosion, and contribute to health of our ecosystem.

Supporting Local & Sustainable Agriculture

Much of the food served at our restaurant is grown on our organic farm, while the rest is sourced from local farmers and producers, reducing carbon footprint and ensuring fresh, high-quality meals for our guests.

Educating and Inspiring Conscious Travelers

We invite our guests to learn more about sustainable living and ecotourism through guided farm tours, nature walks, and by experiencing how eco-conscious hospitality can enhance their overall travel experience in meaningful and memorable ways.

Giving Back to the Community

Our eco-commitment goes beyond the environment we are also dedicated to uplifting the people around us.

Local Employment

By sourcing produce, handmade goods, and supplies locally, we ensure freshness while supporting farmers, businesses, and strengthening nearby communities.

Supporting Local Farmers & Artisans

By sourcing produce, handmade goods, and other supplies from nearby communities, we not only ensure authenticity and freshness but also provide a reliable market for small farmers and local businesses.

Skills Development & Training

Through on-the-job training and mentorship, we help our staff gain valuable skills that empower them both professionally and personally.

Community Engagement

We participate in local initiatives, including tree-planting with schools and cultural preservation, ensuring our success benefits the wider community.

Be a Part of the Change

By choosing to stay with us, you are supporting a lodge that is actively working toward a carbon-neutral future while also uplifting the community. Your visit helps us continue to protect the land, empower local people, reduce waste, and inspire positive change in tourism.
